The Sculpture

Above is a picture of the “Rose Cross Tattoo” sculpture created by Christi Kapp. You can find this inside Violet’s Venom Brewery at Violet’s Garage. The sculpture is comprised of a bunch of custom made roses and butterflies that create the shape of a cross. She meant for this to represent “continuous new beginnings.” This mixed-media sculpture is made of:

  • Rebar

  • Leather

  • A Twig found in an alley

  • Snakeskin Grain Textured Cowhide sewn and dyed brown

It measures 66 inches tall and 43 inches wide. The roses create the outline of the cross while the butterflies surround the cross. The “Rose Cross Tattoo” makes for the perfect item for couples to take a picture in front of.

Other Symbology & Meanings

If you want to interpret this sculpture differently, here are some ideas. The rose cross tattoo is a rich symbol often associated with various meanings, blending elements from both the rose and the cross. The meaning can vary greatly based on personal beliefs, cultural background, and the context in which the tattoo is received, making it a deeply personal choice for many. Here are some common interpretations:

  1. Christian Symbolism: The cross represents faith and sacrifice, particularly in Christianity. When combined with a rose, which often symbolizes love and beauty, it can signify the idea of divine love or the beauty of faith.

  2. Life and Death: The rose is frequently seen as a symbol of life, while the cross can symbolize death or sacrifice. Together, they may represent the cycle of life and death or the coexistence of beauty and suffering.

  3. Mysticism and Spirituality: In esoteric traditions, the rose can symbolize spiritual growth and enlightenment. The cross may represent the material and spiritual worlds, suggesting a balance between the two.

  4. Personal Transformation: Some individuals choose this tattoo to signify personal struggles and the journey of overcoming hardships, with the rose representing the beauty that can emerge from pain.

  5. Love and Remembrance: A rose cross tattoo can also be a tribute to a loved one, symbolizing everlasting love or remembrance of someone who has passed away.

  6. Hope: The rose cross tattoo can also represent hope in terms or renewal and redemption, making the tattoo a reminder of new beginnings.

  7. Duality and Balance: The rose and cross together could represent the duality of life. The rose, a beautiful flower, could symbolize love and life, while the cross, often associated with death and sacrifice, could represent the harsher realities of existence. This combination could reflect the idea of finding balance and harmony between opposing forces.
